Following is a brief description of our volunteer roles. No experience is required for any jobs. Full training and ongoing support provided. Email the Regional Commissioner with any questions.
Coaches. Without you, we wouldn’t have a soccer league. We require training at all levels, ranging from an online course for kinder through 10U to in-person classes for 12U+. Coaching in kinderleague/6U requires minimal time (one practice/scrimmage a week on Saturday afternoons), a total of eight hours over the season. In 7U and 8U, teams typically practice for one hour, time and field selected by the coaches, with a Saturday game. Total time required: 15-20 hours. Coaches of teams 9U and up usually practice twice a week with a weekly game on Saturday (9U-14U) or Sunday (16U, 19U), a total of about 40 hours over the season.
Referees for U7 and U8. With whistles in hand our referees keep the games fun, fast-moving, and safe for all. A great way to learn the game and teach it to the kids too. After an evening of training, you will be ready to step up to your first game. You will be working only at your own child’s Saturday games, so this is an ideal role for someone who wants to get involved but can’t fit in regular practices. The average referee spends about 10 hours over the season helping out at games.
Referees U10+. With whistles in hand and flags on the sidelines, our referees work in teams of three to keep the games fun, fast-moving, and safe for all After an evening of training, you will be ready to step up to your first game. Good exercise too! We also offer in-season mentoring from our more experienced referees. And you can start as an assistant referee on the sideline, and that's all there is to it! You will be working at your child’s weekend games, so this is an ideal role for someone who wants to get involved but can’t fit in regular practices. The average referee spends about 10 hours over the season helping out at games.
Field support. Field liners and paint delivery people ensure that our games are played on well-marked surfaces. Unlike many other volunteer jobs, you can handle these tasks on your own schedule. You can line a f ield near your home/office or the field your child will be using, whatever you prefer. Time commitment: a few hours over the season.
Field crew. For 7U and up. If your child has the first game of the day, you help set up the field, placing the goals on each end and putting a flag in each corner. If your child has the last game of the day, you break down the field. Total commitment over the season: about an hour or two.
Tournament. We host an annual tournament for top 12U boys’ teams from all over the area. We need many hands for the tournament, for jobs ranging from field crew to goodie bag assembler. Please sign up for a tournament job only if you will be available the first weekend in December. Time commitment: less than an hour.
Miscellaneous. We need volunteers to greet and assist parents at walk-in registration. Volunteers to help out at meetings, and to clean out our storage shed. Volunteers to work with our safety director to ensure our fields are hazard-free. And more. Time commitment varies, but is typically less than four hours total.
Division Commissioners. These key volunteers manage all the teams in our 16 age groups. There’s one DC per age group except for the oldest players, 16U and 19U; where we combine divisions. The DCs recruit coaches and referees, create balanced teams, and serve as primary contact for coaches, referees, and players throughout the season.
Board Volunteers. In addition to the DCs, we have board-level positions for people who manage the coaches and referees, organize in-person and online training, oversee field reservations, ensure that every field has goals and flags, order uniforms, and more.
We understand that you may have to miss a volunteer assignment because of travel, work, or other commitments. Please sign up anyway — we’ll cover for you in your absence, and we’d hate to see you miss out on an opportunity to share this experience with your child.
